Congratulations to Gary Deal for bringing home three gold medals for the USA!
Gary, competing at the World Masters Games in the 105+ weight class and 65-69 year old age group, made an 83 kilogram snatch on his opener, missed 91 kilograms on the second attempt, and then moved up to 92 kilograms and made it for his final snatch attempt. He then clean and jerked 105 kilograms on his first attempt, did 115 kilograms on his second attempt, and apparently missed 125 on the third attempt thus achieving a 207.5 kilogram total (36 kilograms over the second place finisher).

I guess its true what they say- once a champion, always a champion.  :D

THANK YOU CHRIS, let me state how important it is to have a coach who is not yourself in a contest, my plan in the snatch was 83, 91, and 93 for a new record, when i missed 91 and came off the platform i was a little rattled and said 92, this was .5 under the world record i made it quite easily and thought i had a new record, but it was gary who called for the wrong wt, maybe i was having a senior moment, but more likely it was as my father would say to me on rare ocasions how stupid is this boy, had i told the very capable howard cohen my game plan this would not have happened, i was so disgusted with myself i wanted to off set it with a big cj 125, 5 kg over the record i cleaned it but jerked it out front, i have terminated gary deal as my meet coach and will seek to retain howard cohen on a permanent basis, thank you again for the honor of being a moderator on your forum

~ I remember 1971 ~ Senior Nationals in York, PA ~  I was a scrawny kid, out there in the audience.

~~ Mr. Deal ~ Polio sure didn't stop you from becoming a National Champ!  And the guys you BEAT:  Bob Bednarski, Bob Kemper, Frank Capsouras, Chuck Nootens - all SUPER-STRONG 110-kg. guys!
~~ Now, you've done it again - this time as a Master!  Congratulations on 3 GOLDS!  ..Holy Mackerel!  Beating the #2 guy by 36 kgs. ?!?!  ..You're an inspiration to me!  When it comes to "playing the hand you're dealt,"  you've ALWAYS been World-Class! . . .  :D  :P  :D

Gary told me his back was bothering him quite a bit from the travel.  He meant to break the world master record (92.5) in the snatch but called for the wrong weight and only took 92, which he made.  He cleaned the 125 (a world master record) but his back was bothering him too much for the jerk.  He was very disappointed.  He blames himself for the snatch fiasco and said he is not used to counting the weight on the bar with the 1 kg rule.  Disappointed with three golds in the masters worlds - I should be so disappointed.
