Buying shoes and a bar - advice
« on: Apr 22, 2012, 09:18 PM »
I want to buy weightlifting shoes for the clean and jerk and snatch. Please recommend. I as thinking adidas looks good. What do I look for?

Likewise, need a bar for same exercises. I was thinking Ivanko. But they have many bars listed, they all say "Olympic" on them and they all vary in price vastly (so they are obviously not all Olympic standard bars). I am comfortable saving up my money to buy the best one available. So can someone please point out which one that is and why.

I recommend anything by Pendlay. I used a new eleiko bar recently, and I thought the knurling was great but the spin was pretty stiff. It probably works out in time. Werksan bars are good, but the knurling is aggressive. That may be good depending on what you are looking for.

What's the difference between their bushing bars and bearing bars at Pendlay?

Pendlay bars are awesome, but I would avoid the shoes. Bearings should be smoother on the spin but usually cost you more. There are a lot of good brands now in terms of weightlifting shoes - crossfit really ramped up that market. Of course there are Adidas and Nike, but Risto are good alternative too if you don't want to drop two bills on a pair of shoes. You might take a look at http://wlshoes.com site for a more exhaustive list of shoes and their reviews.

Rogue also makes some pretty good bars and they have their own version of do-wins that are a little better looking IMHO.
