Interesting that I have far different memories and perspective on the camp, though nothing Matt says is really inaccurate. But, he is very into authority, hierarchy, is very conservative. I on the other hand, while viewing the camp as a great opportunity, was never in awe of Nicu or anyone else. I always considered myself the most important lifter in the world, and still do. I earned the camp, because I held value to the USAW. I don't like the implication that it was some kind of charity I should be forever kissing butt for. I think some of the stuff about lifters complaining and such is overblown, but then I didn't pay any attention. I was interested in getting better, not worrying about those who weren't. I do recall the Gayle Hatch people were on restricted training since Hatch didn't agree with the approach or something. They didn't train hard from what I saw. And, sure, lots of people not cut out for weightlifting faded away with minor injuries or inability to overcome soreness and fatigue. It meant more equipment was available. :)

The best thing about the camps was that it was basically survival of the fittest. Lots of great lifters to compete against, a nice little mountain to climb. Not everyone could make it to the top but the effort was fun I would think for most regardless. For me, it was one of the best times of my life.
