Wow... My split-jerk really blows.
« on: Oct 03, 2011, 02:03 AM »
What's even worse is that I don't know how to fix it...

I'll upload a new video soon, but in the meanwhile, please check out my youtube channel (ViKtoricus) and evaluate my form.

I find it very easy to fix my clean form. Over the past 5 months I've been training, I have managed to keep adjusting my clean technique to the better. I'm not saying that to brag, rather, I am saying it to emphasize the fact that my split-jerk BLOWS...

How do I fix it? Thanks in advance.

Also, I'd like to point out that I can consistently land the barbell on the right spot during cleans, but when jerking it up, it's either over here or over there. It's very inconsistent.

How much do you lift in:
press?
press with impulse?

Well, I recently lifted 135 pounds on a strict press about one week ago. I believe I could lift about 145 pounds max. That is my estimation.

Before that attempt, I have split-jerked 185 pounds after a recovery from a clean.

First, your hips are pretty high on the start and your back is rounded. Lower the hip and keep on your heels. Besides that, that clean looked ok.

You have your weight on your toes when you're jerking, that's why you can't jerk the weight. It forces you to come forward and you lose the jerk. Heels, heel and heels will solve the problem.

While not meaning to imply that there is nothing wrong with your jerk, that particular jerk was missed due to a lack of confidence more  than anything else.  Learn and drill the correct positions and then BELIEVE!

Is it safe to assume that I lack the confidence because I am afraid of dropping the weight when I miss (I have been indirectly and condescendingly warned by my annoying-ass gym owner that he can't have me be doing olympic lifts if I keep dropping the weights.).

I have the same problem at my usual gym despite having bumpers, a proper bar and a platform. Friggin' newbies, man, they piss me off.
