sit or stand in between sets
« on: Aug 18, 2011, 06:32 PM »
Do you sit or stand in between sets? why? I read in Milo years back some lifter from Moldova trained here in the states and one of the things they noticed was lifters sitting down in between sets and they encouraged standing instead.

I think sitting is more common. If you want to get through your sets faster, then standing helps. When you sit down you may find that 5 minutes has passed you by without realizing it.

Sometimes I sit, sometimes I remain standing. I always have my phone with me to use its stopwatch function so that no matter what happens, I never exceed three minutes of resting.

Depends on how I am feeling.  If my legs feel tired Ill sit in order to let them get a little extra rest.  Much of the time I am on my feet a lot during the day so getting a little extra sitting feels nice.  Normally I stand.  I prefer to walk a round a bit between sets, snag drinks talk to people (when some are actually around).  Standing also seems to help my hip flexors stay loose because I pace a lot like a caged beast.  :)woohoo

If I sit, my head makes explosion.
I must keep wet the head, and drink much cold water.

When you get to be my age, you will prefer to lie down and take a nap between sets, or is that reps!!   :)rotf

No, really, try this as a compromise - Sit down long enough to write your last set/reps in your journal, then get up and walk around before your next set.
If I was doing any better, I would be twins!!!

I sit between sets, but always lift at 2 minute intervals, except when doing squat presses, then I limit it to 1 minute intervals.  With changing weights and recording in my training log, there really isn't much sitting involved.  I heard that it takes 90 seconds for ATP to regenerate, hence the focus on 2 minute intervals.
