The reason the West is in decline is because we are not free and are steadily abandoning liberty, i.e., public indoctrination called "schools."

I think most importantly, our lack of freedom is ruining morale. Not to mention, a bad economy, and a president who tells us we need to be more like the Chinese. We need to be more like America of old. Like the ones who won WWII and won the space race. Where was China then?

Our current state teaches us

1. Hard work doesn't pay - No jobs. No future. No point.

2. Human spirit is a dumb idea - Who needs ambition? That is for Germans and Chinese. People with a good economy. You are American peasant.

3. Dreams aren't valid - Wanna' be an astronaut, go to China, or Russia.

From my view, America's entry into WWI and WWII, the Marshal plan, the space race, the welfare state, etc all have driven America into decline. None of the debt for any of those things has been payed- just dumped on the youth and unborn.

Sometimes it seems like the current generation is paying for the WWII generation to have lived it up. In many ways, I look back on the 80's-90's as the ultimate retirement era. Could a retiree ask for better market to sit and watch their money grow? I also find it interesting that as soon as WWII generation is at life expectancy, the system goes to crap. Very few WWII left to impress and treat right, I guess.

The system of sports schools is voluntary.  They recruit poor kids from the rural areas around 10-12 years old and offer some level of incentive.  Probably the incentive is not much, but its enough to achieve the desired level of enrollment.  Kids are visited more than once a year.   CHEN Xiaoting is not in that system any longer, she is on the national team and I guess she only goes home once a year, which does sound pretty rough.   There is a large weightlifting facility in Beijing, I doubt that it is mixed with other sports to any significant degree.  I believe Kyle Cook (-94) has been there as I saw some photos of him in the same facility that they always show on the cctv videos.   I have also seen Chen Xiaoting on one of those videos where she was playing ping pong with the assistant women's coach.  She is senior world champion as well as junior world champion.  It will be interesting to see whether Chen Xiaoting or Li Ping will be the Chinese -53 entrant in the Olympics.
