Barnes and Vang roll today in the 62B session
« on: Jul 01, 2011, 02:14 AM »
Folks,

The guys are 16/18 so far and talk about a great display of lifts being put up so far.

Darrell finished first in the 'B' session with a PR total of 247kg and Weced didn't finish too far back of him with a nice 242 kg and a 3rd position finish.

Darrell went 6/6 and while he finished with a snatch of 108, which isn't a PR, he stomped three clean and jerks at 130, 135 and finally 139 that really pushed his clean and jerk total to a PR and overall PR total by 3 and 7 kg respectively.  Keep in mind that he was 3rd overall after the snatch, but finished first in this session with a first position clean and jerk.

John Thrush said nothing really mattered till the clean and jerks anyway and he was right.  If you want to hear a really good story why the clean and jerk is the king of lifts, ask Matt Foreman about the story of Dean Goad vs David Santillo back around 1992 at US Nationals in Illinois or was it Iowa?  (like MasterCard, priceless)

JT knows something about clean and jerks and his adage holds true all the time. Think, 1992 and the 91kg class overall winner in Barcelona and you know what I mean.

Weced also had a huge PR day with a finish of 105kg after a miss with 103 and then a make with 103.  105 was solid.

His clean and jerks simply got better and better as he caught the bounce out of the hole on the cleans each time like a Swiss Designed Watch; fine tuned and ready to work.

Three clean and jerks later, he was hoisting 137kg, a new PR, like I hoist New Castles on wing night at Quaker Steak and Lube.( of course bone on bone.)

Again, Weced hit 130,134 and 137, all three makes.  The 137 was position 2 and brought him back from 8th in the snatch to 3rd overall.

Overall, the lifting was pretty good with our guys technically sound in this class as they held their own.

Now, as Ziggy stated, soon they need to be on the medal stand and performances like these will pave the road to future medal hauls that we haven't seen for some time on the big stage.

Zygmunt, while pleased, downplayed the performance, as to say that future developments would have to happen to make him smile.

Zygmunt seems to be always thinking many years ahead and when he really looks at lifting, it appears for the long haul.
