Junior Worlds, First Day-Darren Barnes
« on: Jun 29, 2011, 11:13 PM »
Darren went 2/3 and did it the difficult way with a new current USA record.

94 miss, 94 make, and then after a long wait, 102, which was super solid.  I think he was good for 105.

This is a B session.

Folks,
Darren got us going in a big way with a beautiful 230 total at 56kg.  Someone said just make lifts and guess what, he started out with a miss!...
That didn't deter him or the coaching staff as he then proceeded to pound out 5 successive lifts that left him with junior and senior current US records I am told with 94 miss, 94 make, 102 make, 120 make, 125 make and 128 make, which might have been the easiest of them all.

He had some long waits between attempts, yet you could see his confidence build on each lift.  We had a nice training session afterwards that was easily bouyed by his lifts.

Ian smoked a big clean and jerk and so did Mike Nackoul.

Jenny and Meagan hit some big lifts down a platform or two.

I think Darren ended up 4th in his session.  'A' session is in an hour, local time.

Thanks for the reports but in no way are these lifts US records. Albert Hood snatched 112.5kgs in the 56kg class as a junior and I clean and jerked 137.5kgs at the 1991 Junior Worlds.  Hell, I snatched 105 also, which wasn't even second best in US history behind Hood. Calling Barnes lifts US records is just plain silly.
