Junior Worlds, Day Two from Malaysia.
« on: Jun 26, 2011, 12:11 AM »
Most of the USA team should be arriving soon from Hong Kong in a few hours. Looking forward to their arrival.
Some of the South Korean lifters mentioned Colin Ito and Alex Lee as we spent time in the lobby.

As we ate lunch today, a 45-55 year old 'normal' guy with gray hair sat down probably weighing about 100kg. I thought I knew who he was as his T-shirt had an insignia from Belarus. Lo and Behold, there is only one Alexander "Sasha" Kurlovich (Super with multiple gold medals and Olympic and World Records.)

We struck up a conversation and yes, he spoke pretty good English. Right afterwards, Dimitri Klokov's dad and Sergey Syrstov(108kg? stud from Russia that lifted in Atlanta in 96) sat down right next to him.

Rachel Crass, with all the musings of a school-girl finally got the gumption to ask for an autograph and picture from Sasha who politely accepted the request as they ate their lunch.

We talked weightlifting for awhile as he is prominently displayed in the latest Strength Plus magazine and of course, said the magazine was very good. LOL.

Looking forward to seeing the venue tomorrow.

Regards,

Thanks for the update, interesting to read. I can imagine where you might have met as I was just in that hotel a few days ago.

right off of the one set of elevators overlooking the view of the golf course and bridge.  Not the elevators outside of the rooms in the initial part of the hotel.

I think the athletes will like the food, albeit a bit different but nonetheless, good.
