I think periodization is nonsense, aside from the general need to taper-peak for contests, which really is not periodization by itself.
I think that each body has its own periods, times, and this is generally not previsible. Coaches of great and numerous teams made a standar periodization in function of callendars of competitions, and his own administration. But thas is not necesarilly the optimal for the individual athletes. I remember what ridiculous was many lifters, with the polish plain, the sovietic plain, in a little paper, dreaming with fantastic progress if they follow it step by step, journey by journey.No plain, system or periodization replaces a self knowledge.
