Guess this gives more credence to the USAW making everyone background check.

However, a background check won't really prevent this, it will just prevent those who have been found guilty of stuff like this from being a coach.

A background check is irrelevant. When someone is convicted of a sex crime, they are forbidden from associating with children in the future. Its just a scam to take people's money and increase political and bureaucratic control over athletes and coaches. It is the punishment of the innocent on a systematic basis.

Oh I agree Chris, I was never against getting a check since I have nothing to hide, but I was against having to pay $20 a year or so to get it on top of membership and coaching fees (nor can I justify to myself to pay for it).  I work at a high school and they background checked me and payed for it.  If USAW are going to make every coach get checked they should fit the bill.

Privacy is important, even when you don't have something to hide. In fact, if people continue to rationalize intrusions into their privacy this way, they aren't going to have any much longer. Really, this background check screening is an extremely evil intrusion of the government into sport. It is the transformation of a mostly private organization into a policing agency of the state. This trend will inevitably continue, perhaps with criminal charges for failed drug tests or a zillion other possibilities.
