Is it safe to bang my quadriceps with the barbell?
« on: Jun 11, 2011, 12:54 PM »
I can't drop the weights on the floor. It's a commercial gym and it is alot "girlier" than Gold's Gym. I once asked the gym owner if I can bring my own bumper plates so that when the weightlifting platform comes out (it's coming soon), I can drop them when lifting. He responded with "Hmm, they may bounce on the mirror."

So right now, it's either I have a short-term struggle lowering the bar, or just "let loose" and let the bar go all the way down to my thighs. It hurts, but I can tolerate it as long as I know that it will not have any bad effects in the future (like nerve damage.).

Is this a safe practice? Thank you in advance.

No, man, you will injury the legs.
Is better down solwly resisting with the arms.
In The jerk, is too easy. Only is difficult over 95%
In snatch, the same.
In the clean, it becomes difficult, but possible. You flex the arms for the bar for the bar reach just the hips.. It not produces injury.

You do a little of both. It takes some practice but you will get it eventually. Do not try to stop the bar with your thighs, just slow it down so it doesn't hit the ground hard. You may get some mild bruising, but it should go away by the next day. Also I think it can cause your muscles to tighten up, so stretch the rectus femoris.

I can't drop the bar either in the gym, and I lower to the thighs, skipping my shoulders. I agree with the others, don't let it hit your thighs, you've got to resist as it's going down. Here's me lifting and lowering (crane-less, like a fool)

About muscles tightening, with me what gets tight are my traps and muscles behind my shoulder. Even with resisting the bar, it's a sudden jerk on them, over and over. I do what I can with stretching but they still feel irritated.
