Folks,
Anthony Hernandez, who is competing at the Arnold during the Friday session, has generously proposed two prizes for USA Lifters at the competition.
He is offering it in memory of his best friend Specialist C. Thomas Cotter, who died while serving the Army.
The name of the Prize is called, Double-Or-Bust, and the purpose of the prize is to reward and acknowledge excellence in the snatch portion of the lift. In
order to claim the prize a lifter (male or female) must exceed respectively the current all time performance in the snatch as done by
1.Tara Nott who lifted 82.5 at 47.58 or 173.392% of her body weight. The lift was done on 7/22/2000 and won her a Gold medal in the Olympics.
2.Tim McRae who lifted 135 at 63.79 or 211.632% of B. The lift was performed on 5/8/1993.
So here are the basic rules:
1. The lifter must be a US citizen.
2. Lifter (Male/Female) must exceed by at least 1kg the current best US snatch as a percentage of bodyweight.
3. The lifter must post a total.
4. Tie-Breakers - If there are ties within a weight division the lighter lifter wins. If there are ties across weight divisions the heaviest lifter wins.
THE MONEY: 750 USD for the female lifter that can break the record and 750 USD for the Male lifter that can break the record for a total of 1500 USD.
If no lifter (male/or female) claims the prize, a consolation non-profit donation will go to the general prize pool of the Arnold of at least $500 for the
men and $250 for the women.
The award will be offered annually at the Arnold Weightlifting Championships and each year more money will be added.
Below are the numbers you will need to put up. All numbers were rounded up to the nearest Kilogram.
Men
56 118
62 131
69 146
77 163
85 180
94 199 WORLD RECORD
105 222 WORLD RECORD
>105 >222 WORLD RECORD
Women
48 84
53 93
58 102
63 110
69 121
75 131
>75 >131
We are aware that this prize will be extremely difficult for heavier lifters. For the women, all of the lifts are below world records.
These are tough numbers to exceed but keep in mind that Tara Nott did it and so did Tim McRae! Mr. McRae's record is over 18 years old!
