I feel bad for the bar and plates. Maybe they were cracked already.

Yeah doing a lot of those might get you to get the bar back more, heh.

it would just teach me to loose my snatches behind - i do

power snatch
snatch
pull   100% (of best snatch)  and maximums

used to do hang snatch and tried  power cleans with a snatch grip once

I see how it may help from a power pov. If the lift isn't restricted by the catching portion of the exercise, then maybe it improves the lifter's explosive power... maybe...
