due to the additional stress placed on knees etc when doing rack jerks for a masters lifter and one who has had knee ops! i just do push presses from the rack with 5-10kg more than for the jerk for similar rep range-so if i can jerk 120 x 1 , then i will do 125-130 x1 for 3 sets for push press-then when i get to a comp, the adrenalin and perfect flooring of the platform allows me to hit a good jerk and i have saevd my knees and lower back due to limited splitting done in training! i also have to do this for my cleans-i power clean for 90% of the time-but then the last 3 weeks before a comp i do full squat cleans-i find i can squat clean 10kg more for 100% definite than what i power clean-so i base my attempts in comp on that-again i save my knees from repeated fast dropping patella and ligament straining exhertions! if i was of olympic standard my rouitne would rightly be laughed at-but as a masters lifter who wants longeavity and steady progress-it works! i also do low clean pulls to a height roughly 6" minimum above where i would be in full recieving squat clean position and use a kg of 10% more than i can squat clean-so again in comp having pulled say 140kg to that required height, when i do an attempt with 120ish kg-the bar flies high enough-as i am a little slow these days to get under it!! and for front squats i always make sure i can triple my best c&J and with 20kg more than that-i.e. c&J 120, so fsquat 140x3 is enough leg strength!
