Amen Sean!  Do you by chance keep a training log?  If so, could you, and would you mind making it available?  I'll say it again - what you all at LSUS are doing, with the results you are getting, is "mythbusting" stuff, or at least paradigm-shifting stuff, in several ways - the (relative) training (in)frequency, the strength work (so much for "deadlifts make you slow"), the way you periodize, the so-called "bodybuilding" work, the (in)frequency of full lifts from the floor, and more.  I am blown away that people are not watching it, dissecting it, and writing more about it.  Symptoms of a sleepy sport I guess.  Maybe the big spot light turns on when Kendrick jerks 218, which is - what, a macrocycle or two away?  But who knows.  In any event, best wishes for continued success down in Shre'port.

On a separate note, I'd love for you to share what goes through your mid in your pre-lift ritual - what you are doing and thinking from the time you are called, to the time the clock runs down, to the moment you fire off a lift.  You have some of us on the edge of our seat until you finally push off - and then you are remarkably consistent, and producing results.  You remind me of some of my favorite lifters, who would seemingly deliberately wait until there was 5 seconds left, then go.  Would love to hear about your launch sequence.

I haven't kept a training journal in a while because I almost felt jinxed by it. lol Everytime I kept a journal I made great progress and then something would go wrong and I would injure or tweak something and have to back off so I just got frustrated with some set backs and stopped keeping a journal. I will start keeping one when I start training again next week because I know it is definitely an important thing for every athlete to have. I know that kendrick and Erin wallace and quite a few other lifters in our gym keep very detailed training logs and i'm sure I could get one of them to post it in the future (it would take alot of typing lol).

As for my lifting...I just try to enjoy my time on the platform and have fun out there. After all, you only get 6 lifts so you might as well take all the time in the world lol. I think the reason I run down the clock like that has something to do with my tendency to procrastinate also, I like to wait til the last minute whether it is a paper i'm writing for school or a presentation I tend to wait til the last minute to complete it. When my name is called i'm usually thinking I need to get my butt out there and chalk up as soon as possible. Once i'm chalked up I like to think about focusing and clearing my mind and trying to control my adrenaline. Me waiting for the clock to get down to 10 seconds just gives me a rush of energy because I know if I only have 10 seconds it just makes my adrenaline kick in and lets me explode and get the weight overhead. Once I see there's about 10 seconds I get a little dynamic start with a slight rocking back and forth and I count down in my head...3...2...1 and then I just pull the weight of the floor and jump as hard as I can once it gets into the hips, mainly focusing on moving my feet so I don't get tripped up with a narrow receiving position and also keeping my arms long so I can transfer all that power into my pull. It seems to work well on my snatches and cleans now the only thing I have to work on is my breathing for my jerks. For the longest time I have had trouble not blacking out after cleans then I realized I was standing up from cleans and exhaling but never taking a breath back in so I was causing myself to become very light headed. That is now my main focus when I jerk. It seems like such a simple concept but after you've been doing it wrong for so long it's a tough habit to break.
