I would never recommend a complete layoff aside from serious injury. 5 days completely off would be my max. Light sessions will keep you in shape and allow you to recover.

Yah, that is the truth. I personally notice I recover better with light days then taking training days completely off. 2 weeks off is almost like starting all over again.
Current Pr's:
Snatch-  136kg
C&J-       170kg
F Squat   200kg
B squat   230kg
Sn Dead  225kg
Cln Dead 250Kg

So yeah, why did he tell me to take 2 weeks off then? Doesn't make much sense then. But then again he does know better than me, I guess.

do you feel nevous about bringing up these kinds of questions with your coach? if you appeared confused as he was telling you to take a two week break he should have offered an explanation
i suspect the bulgarian method invites a high amount of douchbaggery - me

Not really, he's an easy going guy, I can ask him anything. I did feel a small drop in strength and it did take me a while to get back to my old strength, which kind of led me to doubt the 2 weeks. But like I said, as a beginner, I am not fit to tell.

7th lifter, I understand the frustration and you may be thinking, if only I was following the right training program I would be lifting so much more. Right?

A lifter who competed in the Pan Ams and was an alternate to the Canadian Olympic team in 1988 took care to tell me a few times that you (as in me) are not doing as badly as you think and that if I had the potential to be a record holder, I'd be snatching a lot more than bodyweight no matter what training plan I was following (provided that it was rigorous and the technique was good)

Communicate more with your coach and see what he has to say. Not "whenever you get the time and the chance". You appear to have the time to write to a forum so it appears you have the time to ask you coach as well. Have a discussion ASAP.

Shaun, thanks for your reply!

Well yes, that's actually what I am thinking. I'm not saying I'd be lifting like 20kg more on each discipline (because I wouldn't), but an additional 5 kg to my snatch and C&J would be feasible, or maybe a little more.

I guess it is true what he told you, maybe I am not as bad as I think, though my progress has been zero for 3 months after the 2 week break, which of course has its frustrations :)

Yes, I do have time to write on a forum, but you must understand while I write at the forum, I am not at training and my coach isn't here :) And sometimes it's a bad moment for him, if you know what I mean. I've noticed he's been troubled lately, so that's why I want to pick the right moment. Don't worry, I'll talk to him today though.
