Yeah I was at a National Compeition once and the guy next door to me in the dorms was a cyclist.  He was saying a couple of years back the majority of people going to get caught are from poorer nations who cannot afford the new drugs which are not able to be picked up in doping tests.

Wait Till You See Me in 2008, Says Mutlu:

World and Olympic weightlifting champion Halil Mutlu, who received a two-year ban after he tested positive for doping at the last Olympics, said on Wednesday he was still not sure how the drugs found their way into his body. "I can't make head nor tail of it. I can't figure out why I tested positive," said a seemingly baffled Mutlu, adding: "I am going to show the world what I am made of at the 2008 Olympics."

Mutlu talked to reporters as he paid a courtesy visit to Usak Mayor Mesut Apaydin after missing out on his invitation for the opening ceremony of the municipality's summer sports schools due to business commitments. During his visit Mutlu mentioned that support from all corners of society, including businesses, is needed to develop sports in Turkey and said a large part of his success could be attributed to the help he received from his community.

So, a two year ban with no testing, a flawed system in evidence. We need a lifetime ban on the first offense, and if we can't have it, at least something needs to be done to test these guys while on suspension if they declare their intention to compete again. And, then they should have to declare their intention two years before coming back and be subject to testing the whole time. But, thats weak and ineffective compared to a lifetime ban on the first offense. Thats what we need.

a life tiem ban would def. work. but a 2 year ban is completely a slight effence. Most elite lifters would take advantage of no competion for 2 years and use it to get ready for the olympics or worlds or what not
Rule#1- Lift!!!

Rule#2- Lifting=life. So when lifting is good, life is good. Everything else is unnecessary details.

Rule #3- No excuses. lift  like a champion

I agree. It is so obvious and i am wondering  why WADA and IWF cant understand it.

Do you know one athlete in the wolrd tha said that yes i used steroids?
All are innocent and victims depsite their wolrd records.

IWF does nothing about use if steroids. Epsecially with turkish team.  The TWF uspended from all international events until 31st May 2006 and they paid the fine of US 100,000 that is one hundred thousand US dollars.

The IWF Executive Board declared that the fine shall be used for the purpose anti-doping activities!!!!!!!!!

So i am wondering how the iwf used the money and how decreased the use of steroids? What are the results of their efort ?

And now a Turkish athlete depsite their envolve to doping scandals claims that he will prove how good he is.

Yea, its frustrating to watch.  One of the craziest things I've seen in a long time, in or outside our sport, was when those news stories came out about how the doping control people testing the Turks had their lives threatened. Not long after, there was a message on the IWF site announcing Turkey's suspension and "recognizing Turkey's great contributions to the sport of weightlifting" or something very close to that....nothing about the death threats though.....
