Here is an interesting link to Dr. Mel Siff's blog discussing Flat Footed Vs. Toes:
www.drmelsiff.com/10336/dr-mel-siff-and-istvan-javorek-on-weightlifting-pulling-technique/#more-10336
Dr. Siff did look for studies on this, but none existed at the time. Do any exist now?

KTQ and PB say it very well.
As you have noticed, there HAS been a sea change in Lifting
over the last two decades, and that has gone along w/
ever increasing records (after the drop back in the early 90s
due to stricter drug testing) especially in SN as the technique
improvement has been the main driver.
For now, let me just say that the deliberate "slowness"
of the first 80+% of the pull seen in the lifts
of especially chinese lifters IS IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE
THE FULL DELIVERY OF MASS AND ENERGY TO THE BAR
FOR THE SUDDEN RESULTING ACCELERATION BOOST
AND CHANGE OF DIRECTION FOR THE ATHLETE.
