Snatch Problems
« on: Apr 05, 2010, 03:46 AM »
Hey guys I'm looking for some advice on my snatch technique. I've been training approximately 9 months and I'm snatching roughly my bodyweight now but I'm still missing quite a lot of lifts. Any pointers would really be helpful :)

70kg, 80kg miss, 80kg miss:
Snatches 21-02-10

2 weeks later 80kg, 85kg miss:
Snatches 08-03-10

I think you are swinging the bar in the top end of the motion, need to keep it closer

On the start position, arch your lower back and inflate the chest.
Also try starting with your shoulders a tad bit (about an inch) more over the bar. ):wlfter

If you can arch more, great, but at least youre keeping your back angle constant. The reason why youre missing is because youre not over the bar enough. Your shoulders are in line with the bar so that means you have to extend back on your extension to bring the bar to you resulting in either 1) catching it fwd, or 2) looping it from the behind.

You look more over the bar in your first vid, but the reason youre missing there is that youre not pushing your knees back enough from the start. The bar is travelling around your knees so its going to get bounced out when you brush it. You try to compensate by hopping fwd slightly, but thats a hard skill to pin down...harder than learning to push your knees back when you start the lift.

Thanks the advice Markus. I've actually been trying this recently by setting up on my toes and then going back onto my heels while pushing the knees back and rolling the bar closer just before I lift. I've hit 90kg now :)

Kinda ugly but I'm not pulling around the knees anywhere near as much now.

You could do 100 right now with your pull. Congrats on the PR.
