Are those weights in kilograms? If so, pretty dang impressive for 70 years old if you don't mind me saying so

Hi Gary
Are you aware that your 87.5kg snatch in the above workout is well in excess of the current World record of 80kg (as at 25/11/2009) for the 105+kg  division in the M70 age category (set on 17th May,1998 by Tsezar Veslavutskyy of Ukraine). The same chap also holds the total record of 175kg (set on the same date) while the clean & jerk record stands at 98kg (set on 26th August,2007 by Lev Nikiforov from Russia). I remember reading that you made lifts of 96,120-216 at the National Masters in Texas last year,so breaking these current world records looks to be well within your capabilities.

BTW Gary,I believe that you know a gentleman from Fort Worth named Brad Reid. I have been corresponding with Brad since 2003 and had the pleasure of meeting him in person when I visited Fort Worth back in September 2006 - a really great guy with an extensive knowledge of both the Iron Game and athletic field events.

Regards and best wishes from faraway New Zealand

Gary,

That is amazing!  I had the pleasure of watching you lift down in Savannah a year ago, remarkable lifting.  I have begun training and lifting again after a 15-year hiatus, now at age 54.  The gains come but much slower than when I was a kid of 30 lol.  I pray I have the good fortune to continue and to hopefully improve.  I wish you continued success!

It is going to be quite instructive to learn about your training in this blog.   Are you coming to Montréal for the Pan Am.    Way to go Gary.

JOHN, YOU WILL MAKE GAINS, I TOOK A 34 YEAR HIATUS FROM LIFTING, STARTED BACK AT AGE 65 IN 2005, AND MADE MY BEST LIFTS FOUR YEARS LATER AT AGE 69 BUT DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKES I MADE, EASE BACK IN TO LIFTING, AND STRETCH, AS MASTERS CHAIRMEN HOWARD COHEN SAYS TRAIN SMART, SHOULD YOU ENCOUNTER ANY PULL OR STRAIN ABORT THE WORKOUT AND HEAD FOR THE ICE BUCKET, YOU WILL NOT WORK THROUGH THE INJURY ONLY MAKE IT WORSE, ALSO WE HEAL VERY SLOWLY AS WE AGE I ALSO BELIEVE RECOVERY FROM THE WORKOUT IS VERY IMPORTANT I TAKE A LOT OF PROTEIN POWDER WITH CHOCOLATE MILK, I WILL LOOK  FOR YOU ON THE PLATFORM AT AMERICAN MASTERS IN SAV WHICH WILL BE MY NEXT MEET, GARY
