My first training session..
« on: Feb 24, 2010, 08:51 PM »
I went to my first training session last night with the coach from Tasmanian Weightlifting.

I"m really looking forward to training & competing latter this year. When i grabbed the bar & did a hook grip, i was suprised with how easily i could do it, since all this time i've been using a York bar which is a lot thicker.

At this point i'm thinking maybe do 1 or 2 competitions this year. I'm unsure if i'll compete in the 69kg class or 62. If i weighed 67kg (for example), would that matter at all in terms of going in the 69kg class? Would it matter if i weighed 67 or 65?

Tony (the coach) was impressed with how deep i was squat & how good my technique is, considering i'm pretty much self taught!! I'll start a training log as soon as i get my program written up!

Welcome to the club! :)thumbsup

Get to your first competition as soon as you possibly can.  The more competitions the better.  Competitions allow you to test yourself, to learn about yourself, to meet other lifters and be exposed to different techniques, etc.

I would lift 69 for the first one so you can be at your best, then decide for your next meet. That's you and your coaches call.
