1970 World Championships barbell
« on: Feb 22, 2010, 11:00 PM »
In the description of a video about Koklaev lifting the same barbell used in the 1970 Worlds in Ohio, it claims that there was no rotation in the bar. Does anyone know if that is true?

The bar would have been rotating originally. I don't think they would have let it  rust up that bad and then still used it for this exhibition.

The poster was incorrect.

The rotating bar had been around for more than a half-century by 1970.

MK probably meant this one was not free-turning... probably due to the plate load, as that many small plates WILL bind up the bearings.
