STOP THE STUPIDITY -- 20 sec signal and 5 sec countdown

The 30 sec signal is one of the stupidest things
afflicting our excellent endeavor.
It makes meets longer as lifters wait for it
when they would be ready to lift earlier.
Far better to have the signal at 20 sec left,
thus motivating lifters to go in the first half min,
AND TURN OFF THE SIGNAL WHEN THE HANDS TOUCH THE BAR.
There should also be a 5-4-3-2-1 countdown of the last seconds
whether the lifter has grasped the bar or not.

I'd agree. No need for the buzzer at all, as long as the clock is visible to the lifter and audience.

I hate the buzzer, I always wait for the buzzer to go before I start my lift. It is a mental focal point that does not need to be there.

I'm entering my first meet this weekend so I've been trying to prepare myself by imagining the buzzer and I find that even this is very annoying!
