(i think) something (good) has happend!

G'day team.
I think something good has happened with my lifting, generally speaking. I was watching a video that visually demonstrated the difference between using a quick burst of speed...and simply just lifting the weight. It got me thinking. It got me excited. It got me thinking about what would happen, how would i feel if when doing the snatch for example I did a 'fast' ankle flexion, then shrug when moving from the 2nd to the 3rd pull of the snatch. What about when doing something similar to my clean ?
What i've found is that i'm more confident. Once I elict the shrug, I noticed the bar started to move away from my torso, so i leaned backwards (slightly). Once that happened i found the bar would slide a lot easier up my body than before hand.
I suspect what i've been doing is acting more like a powerlifter than a weightlifter. Of course you can't do a 'slow' snatch, or a 'moderately paced clean', but i think that's more or less what i've been doing. Since i've been focusing on expelling as much power to get the bar from the hang position to above my head, my technique has picked up, i'm more confident and very shortly i'll be breakin' PB's !!
am i making any sense?

Good luck with the idea and hope you do get those PRs
Don't neglect applying speed earlier to the lift either - the goal is just to apply momentum to the bar before quickly transitioning (itself adding momentum) and it doesn't all have to come from the pull from the hang

so Aussie, when are you getting into the Hobart team down there? you sound very keen to start I would think they should take you a lot quicker. Do you want me to make a few calls?

There is no shortage of stories where a small business person has been hit with tens of thousands or more of legal costs from their own lawyers. Then there is the potential of having to pay for the other sides legal costs if the small business person loses

That'd be really good. I've lost all contact with the team & want to connect with them & let the old saying 'birds of a feather...' go into action. I currently train with wanna be bodybuiders, actual bodybuiders & some slight powerlifters. I"m the only one in my gym who does 'weightlifting', if that makes sense.
i applied the above 'speed' technique today with working on my jerk. it's making a massive difference

Aussie,
you've set forth an issue that is plaguing me. I can't seem to "bring the rain" or get that explosion at the top of my second pulls. I understand how it needs done, but I can't seem to get my body to do it. It's very frustrating and inspiring at the same time.
Good luck and go heavy.
All the best,
Arden

well mate, the best thing i can suggest is keep working at it. I tend to lurk on a lot of message boards, i read on one board somebody said to be fast and furious when it comes to generating power (au the start of the second pull). So i started with no some pvc pipe, getting in position and moving really fast. If you think about doing the ankle extension then at the end of that movement you shrug, you might blow it. So start slow then get faster and faster. As you get faster, you'll find the bar will become 'weightless'. So what do you do ? Lean slightly backwardr, the shrug is actually a part of the third pull, not second. I'm probably not making any sense! Sorry
