Feedback on my snatch
« on: Feb 03, 2010, 02:00 AM »
G'day team.

I'd love some feedback on my snatch (45kg x 2)

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

I'm aware that in the 2nd lift i did a bit of hitching before i did the actual lift (stroking the bar up & down). It looks like i did a press out also at the top of the second lift, it wasn't, i just moved my arms back to stabalize.

It's not much weight. It's something tho. Any feedback would be great!!

just some safety tips, grab that black matting and lift on that in an area clear of machines,
find a pair of boots, even old black school ones that have a bigger heel, using little plates to prop up your heel is a big no no!!
There is no shortage of stories where a small business person has been hit with tens of thousands or more of legal costs from their own lawyers. Then there is the potential of having to pay for the other sides legal costs if the small business person loses

Aussie:  the Snatch is OK.   Keep practicing.   Try to go lower.    I don't know if anyone ever mentionned it to you but the way you lower the bar after your Snatch is really dangerous.   With a heavier weight you could seriously bruise  your thighs.    Or break them at worst.   Please don't lower the bar like that but rather rotate your elbows.

Thanks fella's.

That black matting is slightly spongey...i feel more stable lifting off it than on. That being said, i'll give it another go. When i get the coin, i'll pick up a pair of actual lifting shoes. In the meantime i'll hunt down some shoes with a higher heel, ie schol shoes or something similar. I'm a shorter guy, so it shouldn't be too hard!!

Owen when you say 'go lower', do you mean from when i'm in the hang position?  I'll for sure start rotating my elbows after the snatch. I'm quite fond of my quads & don't want to break or bruise them!!

It turns out the state record for my weight class is about 110k. I"m miles away from that!!

Also, keep in mind you are performing a hang power snatch.  A snatch is from the floor into a full squat when receiving the bar, then standing.

As for your lifts, not bad, but I agree with the above poster about losing the plates under the heels, you will very likely injure yourself when your heels slip off during a lift.  Also, you need to work on keeping the bar closer to your body, it goes down to your knees, then stays away from the body until you go under and pull the bar back over your head.  Just my .02 worth, and others are more qualified than I.

Thanks Keith. I'll lose the plates. I promise.

I've watched the vid quite a bit this arvo, the biggest thing i noticed ( from a newbies position) is that at the 9 second mark, the bar is quite far away from my body. Is that the point that you were talking about how it needs to be closer to me?
