The sleeves slid right off meaning the mechanism that held it in place broke. I don't believe Pendlays are needle bearing but, whatever that is made the sleeves slide right off. Honestly, they got dropped a lot with really bouncy rubber plates so, every time they were dropped that was like adding 3 drops to the bar. Then you have almost every team using them...

I have taken apart a Pendlay bar. There is only a snap ring that holds the bar from sliding off. If the snap ring breaks it will just slide off.

... We have three pendlay bars at my gym and the spin on them sucks. For bushing bars they are too stiff.

I am looking into buying a new pendlay HD bar to beat up with but I am not sure. $300 is reasonable, I want something I can really hammer and not worry about it. I am horizontally bars that hook to my rack and I like to use and I do not want to risk damaging my Eleiko bar. Also having 2 bars is nice when a buddy comes over to lift.

Yah I am starting to notice that my pendlay bushing bar is not spinning well anymore, I have had the bar try to roll when i am doing cleans or front squats. Is it possible to bring it to a machine shop and get needle bearings installed?

I dont know about that, which Pendlay bar do you have? Look at the end is there an exposed snap ring? Or a Cap?
It is pretty easy to open that bar up and add more lube if you want I can load up pics on how I took apart a Pendlay HD bar.

I can only imagine having to pay a machinest to open up the bar and bore it out then retro fit needle bearing is going to cost far more than its worth.  It will still be only a Pendlay bar that spins a little better with a new voided warranty.

I have the previous model of pendlay bar-The Econ bar. It has a cap on the end. I dont have the HD bar.

i believe that the pendlay bars are guaranteed for life (bending or collars falling off) for those who have broken ones....except the really cheap ones that he used to sell...his new ones have two snap rings in them so i'm told...

i have heard that the Rogue bar that i am contemplating, is actually made by pendlay. and it also has a lifetime guarentee against bending or collars falling off.

the only ones that i can find locally are the York elite training bar ($500). and i think its a bushing bar.

I'm still on the fence,

It is easily disassembled if you have the proper tools. You basically have to destroy the end cap to get to the snap ring. At least this is how I did the HD bar.

Buy the Pendlay 20 kg NB bar or even better save and buy an Eleiko training bar.

The new Pendlays have very nice knurling and the spin is decent. Well and Eleiko is king in my book.

Once you go to a bearing bar it is hard to go back to a bushing bar.
