Firstly, "BS" generally stands for bullsh!t on the internet.

Secondly, not all lifters do back squats. I have not included them in my progression training myself because I agree with this. I think its usefulness is eclipsed by the front squat. Not that I have a massive amount of experience, but if Ivan Abadjiev says it then it must hold some weight.

You often see a lot of people fail the clean and jerk because they cannot stand up after the clean. That is the most common failure in the lift, along with not locking out the arms on the jerk, and it seems to stem from the fact that they have somehow learned to pull more than they can front squat [after the pull], which is not an excessively useful thing to be able to do. I'll leave it up to you to figure what exercise is to blame for over-developing their back and hip power in relation to their quad power (which has clearly been left in the dust).

In any case, one saying is, "If you can front squat it for 3, you can clean and jerk it."

This saying holds true for me, and if you compare top athletes who you know how much they can clean and jerk in comp and how much they can front squat in training, it seems true.

Chris - with regards to the formula, I enter in my BS and my S and C+J results are higher than my actual, however, when I enter my current FS, the S and C+J are very close to my numbers. Would this suggest that bring my FS up would push my lifts more than technique at this point?

How big is the difference between your projected lifts from the FS and those projected from the BS? It sounds to me like your front squats just aren't as good as your back squats, which would mean, yes, you should work on improving in the fronts...

Also, am I correct is assuming that you would want to wear a belt on all four movements or wear none at all in order for the calculations to be accurate?

As I recall, we didn't control for use of a belt at all so its a good question. Personally I don't think belts are of any value so I wouldn't worry about it.

[Do you know someone that can snatch 200 without being able to back squat 800lbs? I don't.

Yury ZAKHAREVICH is one.

Do you have any evidence Zak couldn't squat 800lbs?

He did 200kg of snatch in 1984, at less than 100kg of bodyweight.....

Those years Kazmaier did 900lb of power squat, supposedly he could not do more than 780lb for a complete squat,
he weighted more than 140kg.

But no, i never asked to Yuri if he could do.  :)wink
