It seems like you're making the assumption that the relationships between these lifts are all linear. I have a feeling that that's not the case, especially in the case of extremes. How do you address this? Is there a range where your prediction equations are more accurate?

The relationships were linear, and I will not talk about it much. I don't feel like dealing with any "faith" from weightlifters and/or weightlifting coaches who want to go on about how such and such doesn't fit the line because of such and such (so and so was weak in squats versus lifts, etc). Everyone fits the line. Everyone. I will not debate it. The article will be published in due course.

Should be able to use those numbers as a baseline for how good your technique is if you are lagging behind the line.

Right you are. If you are less efficient than the formula, your technique is deficient and should be the emphasis. If you are more efficient, you better squat harder. This sport is way less complicated than the fake intellectuals wish to pretend.

Chris,

I just want to make sure I am understanding you correctly.  I plug my numbers in and I was within a kilo or two in all categories.  With this being the case, in your opinion, should increase my squat strength to improve my lifts?  Knowing this would really help me in designing my future programs.

Your response would be greatly appreciated!

Ross

If I understand you, this makes total sense. Bodyweight is not a significant factor in this relationship, compared to your squat abilities versus lift abilities. In other words, a 60kg lifter with a certain squat will fall on the line nearly in the same place as a 300kg lifter with the same squat.

I'll look forward to reading that article with great interest.
