Chin music

I decided today that I needed to try to accelerate more through my second pull (cleans) because I'm having trouble getting into the rack. So I put a little heavier weight than I've been working on lately (70kg and I weigh 74Kg) and tried to pull harder through the second pull while trying to get under the bar faster. I also tried to keep the bar in closer. Apparently I succeeded since not only did I get the speed of the bar up but I nailed myself in the chin.
Anyone else have this issue? Am I trying to jump under too fast or pull too hard?

No you want to pull hard and jump under fast.
You likely hit your chin because the weight you are using is well within your strength levels and your technique is still wild. More practice, maybe a bit less speed with the light weights while practicing.

Saying my technique is still wild is probably generous! It's definitely getting a lot better since I've had a little coaching but I guess I need to work on control as well as speed. That's why I love this sport: so simple yet so complex.

I've bounced a few snatches off my melon.
Not pretty. Left nice knots each time. I've also taken a few cleans a little to hard to the neck. Live and learn. It's all about experience and repetition.
All the best,
Arden

Sometimes I'll really nail my second pull and the bar will go up like a rocket...when that happens I usually hit pretty high in the neck area
