Re: Rules Question About The Jerk

Is the split jerk still considered the best for heavy attempts or is the squat jerk now considered better? I've seen lifters use both and it seems they often go for the squat in earlier attempts and the splits on later attempts, but I haven't seen a ton of events so I could be just seeing something that isn't a real pattern.

You can actually jerk the same amount if technique is equally as good because a jerk is a jerk BUT, the landing allows you to correct error. By splitting you create a wider base of support  and therefor, if the lift was a little forward or off, there is a better chance of correcting it. With a power or squat jerk, if you are off, you are much more likely to lose the lift.

The Squat and Power Jerks are not bad, just not as reliable.
