When is Pat going to start competing again? His squats, speed, and over all strength are very impressive.

All the best,
 Arden

I just find it mind boggling that someone can train this hard and not have any competitions ahead of him except I assume beginning in 2011, and at this level he may be missing out on some income from USOC athlete support (it doesn't appear to be much though)

July-December 2009 Stipend Payment

The USOC will pay the top 5 males and the top 4 females on the World Championships ranking list which is based off of the 2009 World Championship qualifying total from their results at the 2009 National Championships. Athletes no longer have to exceed 95% of the World Championship qualifying total. Athletes will receive $500/mo.
In addition, the top male and the top female athlete who achieve 100% or greater of the 2009 World Championship qualifying total, will receive an additional $1500/mo.

What if you want to succeed more than you want their $500 a month? The money comes with strings, strings not necessarily conducive to obtaining your best performance when you want it.

I wish Canada was as generous as USOC. One of my coworkers was third in rankings for sprint cycling and qualified for the Beijing Olympics but only the top two were given financial support so he wasn't able to compete.  :)banghead

This is probably why Broz has said he makes sure that his lifters keep an International perspective. Pat could easily win Nationals but, he wants Olympic Gold. I do hope he is going for Worlds in the coming years before riding just to the Olympics. Put the scare in other Super heavyweights.

Nothing could motivate me to take their money now-a-days, even if I wanted to compete internationally, which I do not. To accept their money is to accept their authority over you. No thanks.
