I prefer B. A are good for rack pulls and really heavy deads. But B release easy and are easy to strap in. I only wear them when I power snatch or hang snatch. I can't wear straps when I clean. Judas mention "welfare wraps" and some folk have taken leather straps and sew the ends together with heavy line (or fishing line); I've understood that those work the best because they can release even more easily than B, but I'm not certain about that as I've never used them.
All the best,
Arden

Tried both.
Strap B every time - they last longer, safe for dropping, easy to strap in, and ride on the back of the hand.
The trouble with strap A is that they tend to tighten during the set, so cut of circulation and loosen grip. They also sit on the wrist, and because they rest the weight on 1 section of webbing they tend to not last as long.
I would just make your own.
buy 1.5" nylon webbing (from ebay), which can take about 1500kg, and is of a similar weave to car seat belts.
Then buy 'bonded nylon' thread also from ebay.
cut 22" of webbing. Tac the ends together with the bonded nylon thread. Do this by sewing a square in the end, and sewing a cross in the square, linking the corners of the square.
Enjoy!
I have had mine a year now, and have had lots of hard use, and they look as good as new. And they are easy to wash.
It doesn't matter if they break since i have another 10 meters of webbing to make some more!

If you are unwilling to make them yourself, this website sells them cheaply with a lifetime guarantee on them.

I just bought some tubular nylon webbing at an outdoor store @ $0.40/ft
Price didn't really bother me ($1.50 for a pair of straps, how could it?), but they only had one colour (black). Any places online (pref in Canada) that sell nylon webbing in different colours?
Someone on eBay has some for ~$10 for 20 yards, but shipping is like $35 to Canada

Try a climbing store for webbing. Here's a list of stores:

I use the first strap in the pics. I dont use straps when doing snatches from the hang or whatever so thats not an issue but in the few times Ive done it, I havent noticed it difficult to release the bar (esp if you dont wrap it tightly).
I dont like the 2nd type of strap because it feels like a huge wad in my hand and I cant relax my grip.
