jumping foward, back and straight?

Im just witnessing alot of lifters and watching how they lift. My question for you guys is jumping forward better then jjumping straight or back. To me and what ive been taught is forward is wrong, straight is what you want. Someone said to me when i witnessed jumping forward they said at least your pulling your body into the bar. Why would you want to pull your body into the bar shouldnt the bar just meet the hips and extend? I also after watching hundreds of videos of international and national lifters out of 100 lifters 70 percent jump straight, 25 percent jump back and 5 percent probably jump forward if that.
