Open Source Software
« on: Dec 18, 2009, 09:15 PM »
I frequent the Crossfit Forum often and found a great open source video software that seems to have been made for weightlifters.  The software can be downloaded for free here.  I downloaded it this morning and then decided to see what I could do in the clean and jerk today.  I recorded the effort from the side view to track the bar trajectory with the software.  I have uploaded my 285 lb clean and jerk to youtube for you to see what the software can do and so that you can break down my lift.

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

My skill continues to improve, but I still notice some things I would like to correct.  1st pull used to be a problem, but that seems pretty good now.  It seems to me that my 2nd pull loops away from me too much.  I think I started the 2nd pull too early and my hip thrust caused the bar to push away from me.  Starting the thrust later will cause a more vertical trajectory.  My jerk felt really good, except for the recovery.  My trajectory was perfectly vertical with a slight posterior loop at the top which is good.

What do you all see and how do you like the software?  The website has a forum and I will post some ideas there as I get time.

Zach, you may want to suggest MAC compatibility on the Kinovea forum.

I really like what I have used so far as it will be a great tool in the tool box as I coach.

I have Windows on my Mac via a virtual machine (VMWare), but it's a PITA to use for anything but accounting software

Maybe this will force me to start using a partition...

(at the risk of turning this into a geek thread...)  Zach, I use vmware on Linux and I get my virtualized XP to see my files by using shared folders in vmware and then mapping a drive in XP.

This is awesome. I was saving for Dartfish all this time so, this will be a good substitute until I have the money.
