I suspect a conspiracy between Korea and China - they have agreed amongst each other that since Korea is the host, China is going to back off in a few categories where Korea has a true contender - e.g. womens 53 kg, 75+ kg, we will see about men's 77 kg. It's about face. Korea's 69 kg is not good enough. He's in one of the videos I posted on youtube - and lifts today.

48 kg class
They showed a bit. Both Turkish women were ba-dass but the punky Chinese woman was the coolest. giving the "rock-on" sign after her last snatch. The Turkish women lifted big c&j and the Chinese went up for a final 118 kg which would be gold in the c&j, she did it and then looked at the bar, it was under-loaded on one side by 2.5 kg so they only gave her credit for 115 kg. I don't know if she was offered another attempt or what but got a  lot of praise for her composure and good nature.

The commentators made a point of saying that with all the referees, jury, technical controller, a misload at a world championships on a gold medal lift is a shame.

53 kg class
Marilou Dozois-Prevost seems to do better in 53 kg
Emine Bilgin - glad she is back. Made a youtube video of her a couple years ago. I totally respect the lifting I jsut also happen to have a crush on her. (Also on Yoon Jin hee from Korea)
No reason for Dasdelin to have dropped her 83 kg after lifting it - just slightly forward and lost control. Throw up high and squat under
Slight frog style by the Kazakh lifter (older one, Svetlana)
Barbosa of Colombia is very fast up and down
Contreras, DOM has a gloomy face but snatches well
Olympic champ from Thailand seems slow, semi-uncoordinated - surprising, bomb
Chinese girl, after missing her first two, absolutely smokes her 3rd attempt
My favourite, Yoon Jin-Hee seemed mentally shaken on her 3rd attempt no lift
Barbosa of COL has an insanely wide grip in the jerk
Jin-Hee is going to have some trouble in the jerk, the 113 clean was not so easy
Contreras got smacked in the side of the face by 114 kg while missing the jerk, that will hurt
The 16 year old from Kazakhstan surprised all by her ability in the clean and jerk - first with 120 was totally kapow
Out comes China, her jerks are awesome - BAM 123
Girl from KAZ stands up from her cleans like its trivial
Chinese woman had to run out with few seconds left and rush an attempt
At the end you can see Diego Salazar and Oscar Figeuroa, as well as other members from Colombia swarming around the winner for pictures together, happy ending.

69 kg
According to the announcers, Liao was 30 seconds away from not making weight for his category
Thick rippling abs - in the warmup room lifting shirtless (Liao)
Micelescu ROM is fairly tall maybe 5'7" and not particularly muscular, jumps off the ground
Looks like Nicu Vlad is coach or assistant
Liao power snatched 140 kg in the warmup room
The Armenian is skinny and fast
Indonesia has good lightweights
Micelescu roars like a caveman and his snatch is Dimas-like big head throwback
Dabaya swings his 3rd attempt backwards
Mirzoyan really knows how to snatch, so fast and deep
Liao in comparison is slower uuuup dooown but he is definitely stronger
His attempt with 166 was lost behind
Kim Sun-Bae is another Korean Elvis impersonator, good clean & jerk, cleans like Sa Jae-Hyouk
Mirzoyan jerks with a normal grip and doesn't get the bar back over his head, didn't stand up with 184 on 2nd
Randy says he is the son of Oxsen M.

The commentary's great Shaun!!

Seems like what you're seeing has lots more warm-up room vid than was in the live feed from Beijing.

Su Daijin is the first Chinese lifter that isn't totally muscular
Sa Jae-Hyouk smoked his opener with 160
Ivan Cambar of Cuba is surprising and has huge quads, good 160 kg sn
Xianjun is another bodybuilder
Martirosyan is very fast, snatched 165 kg with room
Sa Jae-Hyouk better clean and jerk a ton if he wants to win, I was rooting for him
Jeepers China will win this one too, that 170 was not a struggle by China
Dang, Martirosyan that was a wicked 170 kg, DUDE
Holy crap 174!
Both Chinese squat jerk and neither are particularly strong in the jerk based on their openers but the new world record holder's lead is large
The Armenian has quite a pull but his first attempt was denied but elbow touch on the knee

The video quality sucks but it's all I can do

Good that Sa at least got the CJ gold for the home crowd...

BUT

the judges could have easily called that good (remember Chigishev's Beijing CJ that never stopped moving?).

The home crowd riding the judges and jury out on a rail to be dipped in Kim-chee (or whatever the local equivalent of tar and feathers) might not be more good than bad, but in the word of John Lennon (w/o the rest of the goofy stuff):

"Imagine..."

It appears W69 had the same fate as my favorite lifter Liu Chunhong was 41kg off her Olympic performance total .. still good enough for 4th though.

A lot of you guys have access to video now on the Chinese state tv web site so no need for commentary I just want to say that the 75 kg Armenian and especially the 75 kg Kazakh woman are really damn strong. Snap me in half like a bread stick. The Kazakh uses a feet together frog stance - looks weird at the start but she is excellent with it.
