He definitely seems to be a good manager in the area of sports business and marketing. No indication that he has ever had any involvement with weightlifting but maybe that doesn't matter. I see he came up with the idea of a fluorescent hockey puck which was an idea mocked nationwide in Canada - will there be any gimmicks in weightlifting?

Shaun, I was very impressed with Rick and have high hopes.  When asked specifically what he would say to the statement that he does not know anything about weightlifting he said that he would humbly agree, but the CEO of AT&T does not necessarily know anything about line work.  My take is that he is a business guy, not a weightlifting guy.  But, we have plenty of them.  We need business help.

He spent a good amount of time at this years nationals riding the shuttle back and forth listening to what people were saying about the sport.  Only time will tell.

I have talked to one board member quite a bit about this guy and why he was hired, I can say that I totally agree and am behind the decision.  I think it is the right thing to do and the right type of person.  Time will tell if I am right.

Yeah, weightlifting definitely needs some good marketing. Once we get some money rolling we can support our best lifters.

I think it is a great thing that the USAW hired an accomplished outsider.  The good ole boys network is rampant in all sports (I work as an athletic trainer for a large high school.  I see the results of the good ole boy network all the time).   It makes a lot of business sense to hire someone who is an experienced sports CEO.  I think his experience with minor league hockey will really help us out.

I am excited about the future of the sport in this country!

This is kind of exciting. I'm hoping we can all have patience and know this can be a good thing for American weightlifting. grouphug:)

The BOD felt the search committee, headed by Artie Dreschler, did a fantastic job.  It was a tedious and time consuming task.
