Sara Cowles Moves to NMU

Uplifting story

Sara Cowles was a 2008 state high school weightlifting champion for Spruce Creek. While a freshman at UCF this year, she became a U.S. junior national lifting champ, and eventually placed 13th at the World Junior Championships in Bucharest, Romania, in her 116-pound weight class.

Cowles' passion for lifting earned her a scholarship to attend the U.S. Olympic Education Center program at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich.

It's a long way from Central Florida but Cowles won't be alone. Already enrolled in the Olympic development program are Jessica Gallagher (Longwood) and Robin Feuerman (Altamonte Springs).
