Oral Presentation on Olympic Weightlifting
«

I am going to do an Oral Presentation on Olympic Weightlifting this upcoming Monday. I am going to have a powerpoint and have some general notes on it, not much, and speak from that. It is only 7 minutes, and then at the end classmates or teacher will ask questions. I was just curious if you guys have any ideas for me and important stuff to include. I think it will be informative and persuasive and just be a badass presentation, it will also include relevant picture and video. Your ideas are much appreciated and I value them, thanks a lot guys!!

Good luck man. I would definitely include some words about weightlifting being a safe sport. Provide some references too.

I have given a few presentations on weightlifting to those that know little on the sport. Make sure to show people what weightlifting is NOT...i.e. powerlifting and bodybuilding. Get pictures to show the difference in body types and mentalities (i.e. powerlifters screaming, etc). Videos are great too.
My 2 cents

Here is my powerpoint presentation so far, take a look and see if I need to improve stuff, the last slide is for when I ask the audience if they have any questions. I will read basically off the notes but i will practice before so i don't stare at it the entire time.

I think you will do well Alex just don't include any of your standup comedy routine into your presentation.

Taylor and I made about 20 presentations to school kids recently.
We demo-ed the lifts w/ medium weight,
let the kids feel big weight in teams (6 second graders on a well-spotted 140k bar),
explained the lb/kg conversion (getting them used to the 22-33-44-55 pattern to know what the reds weigh),
and showed video of all sizes of lifters (noting that Melanie and Natalie are former gymnasts),
incl the 53 women from Euro's (
Maria de la Puente vs. Julia Rohde
or this one if you have time:
[www.ciezary.pl] ME 2008, kat. 53 kg kobiet (rwanie)
-- great variety of body types).
It's good to ask them if they ever heard that B-ball makes you taller, as a lead in to the reasons/stats about the
height and safety concerns re OL. I like to list the more dangerous sports of cheer/soccer/softball.
Maybe ask them if they know who the fastest swimmer is, then ask them why he didn't win 10m diving gold.
The main thing is to captivate them w/ sufficient involvement,
while providing perspective that makes them go "Ah hah..." and "Wow!!".
