IAWLA Leinster Open at Coolmine Sports Complex
Had weigh-in at about 10:00. I stopped eating and drinking at about 7pm yesterday and had skipped breakfast as well so as not to miss my weight. I was surprised when I weighed in at 82.66kgs. Easily made the 85kg category.
The lifting started at 12:00. First up were the 69kgs and 77kgs lifters. One of the 77kgs lifters had a video done up here:
IAWLA Leinster Opens - 69Kg/77Kg Categories
When the 69/77 lifters were half-way through the clean and jerk Harry had me start warming-up.
I warmed up to 55kg in the snatch. I was first up in the 85/94/105/105+ lifters group for the snatch.
My opener was 56kgs which I got. Then I followed myself for my attempt at 60kgs. I got 2 red flags on my attempt as I had my left arm bent during the movement. So I went with 3rd lift at 60 again, this time I got it. Here is a video of my 60kg lift in the snatch:

Then I had a pretty long rest as the other lifters got on with the Snatches. Towards the end of the Snatches Harry had me start warming up my clean and jerk. There was ten mintues between the snatch finishing and the clean and jerk starting. My opener on the Clean and Jerk was 84kgs which I got without much difficulty. Then I went to 89kgs, which I got. For my last lift on the clean and jerk I went to 92kgs which pretty much matches my PB of 92.5 from training. I got the lift though I was a bit wobbly at the top of the jerk! Here is a video of the 92kg Clean and Jerk:

So my total for my first competition was 152kgs. This put me 3rd out the four 85kg mens lifters there on the day so I even got a 3rd place medal for my troubles! All in all it was a great experience and I'm looking forward to the next one!
