A needle bearing bar has better spin than a bushing bar.

needle bearings are not pointy things,

but are long and thin compared to ball bearings

so they handle the shock of being dropped from height

better w/o denting the bearings or races.

They spin better than bars that have what are called bushings

for bearings, but are not as long-term hardy.

SO, if the bar will be used by only a few people

who will not be dropping it in an overly jolting way

(spiking it, using too many iron plates outside the bumpers,

using a hard platform or iron plates), then definitely go

w/ needle bearings.

If you want to save money and/or will be using the bar

among many people of unreliable skill/care,

then go w/ a bushing bar.

Check the Pendlay site for the best explanation of options.
