Start position
« on: Feb 25, 2009, 03:35 AM »
I remember reading somewhere that it was possible to predict the success outcome of a lift fairly accurately just by looking at the start position.
Anybody else read this, remember who said it?

On page 41 of Drechsler's encyclopedia, he describes how he and Joe Mills conducted an experiment, trying to predict the outcome of a lift according to the pull to the knees. Not sure if this is the exact mention you were looking for, but he said they got it right two thirds of the time.

did they say what they looked for in a start position that made the lift successful?

Not exactly. It was part of a chapter dealing with the importance of the start position, an example given to stress the point. The chapter has a pretty thorough description of what should take place there. No pictures of course, and no real checklist of what to do.
