Lifted 100/105x/107 and 125/133/141 for 248

at Utah Summer Games to beat my previous best of the last 10 yrs (4 yrs ago in NJ) by 4k!!

Also improved on Dan John's nearly 10-yr-old USG records of 105/140/245.

It sure helped to have John Broz there to trade CJs with -- he went 130/140/150, but just swapping platform time was a boost to both.

It was a great finish to a near perfect build-up, and a motivating step toward the next goals I have (DJ's Utah records of 112.5/142.5) -- these bests were secure enough that they easily could have been 2nd att's.

I really benefited from my approach to 20-rep squats in building strength, and the way I built my lifts w/o overworking my shldrs and stress adaptation.

More to come...

OK, so I was in a maintain phase of 2-ish wkts/wk

for the month after Utah Smr Gms

(actually went 2-2-1-2 due to scout camp),

when I found out that deadline for State Games of America

was shifted from 6/1 to 7/23,

so I decided to go, especially to support a new lifter I coach.

5 wkts later (3 rather than the 4 I wanted, then 2 the wk of)

I got to compete on the same platform used in '96

at the Atlanta Olympics (at least I think so

since I don't know of any others in this country

w/ the nostril-view-vid-port),

w/ many of the most prominent lifters in recent yrs

acting as judges, loaders, table staff, etc.

Almost missed weigh-in due to rushing bk from the USAFA

where I coached Wendie Edwards to a gold in PL

(never gonna let someone try to do both in one day again) --

got a text from US Super champ Sarah Robles

"Dude, you gotta weigh in"

while in slow traffic, but still made it w/ a minute to spare (102.3).

Awesome to warm up in the OSOTC ST facility

just the other side of the wall from the OL facility

(all the platforms in there had chairs/spectators on them).

Went 50 for wm-up complex, 70 SN, 80,

85x (but big enough to still go up), 90, 95,

asked for 95 opener to change to 100,

got 100 easy enough, thought "why not get my best SN in 10 yrs",

asked for 108 (planning to maybe go for 112

to break Dan John's UT record),

heavy from the big jump, but got it

(slight bend of rt arm frozen to allow judges to not call it a pr-out),

went after 112 for a promising pull under,

but not close enough to feel bad about missing.

CJs wm-up w/ 50, 90, 105, 115,

125 (w/ belt), asked for 130 instead of 125,

got 130 fairly easy, asked for 136 (to set up a try at 142),

tough (elbows on chest at bottom),

but got it well enough to ask 142,

got more rest due to a cpl att before my last,

CL went better (but still elbows dn) for another best-in-10-yrs,

but the JK was just outside the groove

(Vardanian the Younger said he thought I was gonna make it).

What a fantastic time!!

You should all try to go next yr!!
