Weightlifting supplements

I was just wondering what type of supplements competitive weightlifters use?

I noticed the Canada anti doping committee recommends that athletes use no supplements, is this common practice among competitive weightlifters?

what are some legal supplements that increase performance?

where can a complete banned substance list be found?

Has anyone tried Beta Alanine? it supposedly reduces a chemical the body produces while in training or stressful situation that inhibits muscle growth. Is this supplement legal? it is a nonessential amino acid.

You can find information specific to Canada at the Canadian Center for Ethics in Sport (CCES) web site

Look there for the substance classification booklet on the left panel, and in the doping-free sport menu for the supplements link.

Their message is clear - if you use supplements the responsibility for what they may intentionally or inadvertently contain lies with you.

All I would recommend is creatine, protein and Omega 3 (fish oils)

I don't see how a supplement that contains elements found naturally in food, such as an amino acid, could be banned.  The concern is that something could be tainted with an herb or prohormone that is banned.

Just a reminder for all, please do not post any links for nutritional supplements. WE do not allow advertisements for them since they are taken at the risk of the athlete, substantial risk exists, and the money is better spent on good food, massage, training camps, etc in our opinion.

Most people take supplements as a part of their normal diets including orange juice, bread, milk etc.  They are tool that when taken appropriately can enhance performance.

So not taking supplements is the proper attitude of a weightlifter?

What about for your joints, no one takes any type of supplement for that? I would like to start taking something for my joints.

I found this on the anti doping site for canada:

"S3. BETA-2 AGONISTS
All beta-2 agonists including their D- and L-isomers are prohibited.
Therefore, formoterol, salbutamol, salmeterol and terbutaline when administered by inhalation also require a Therapeutic Use Exemption in accordance with the relevant section of the International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions.
Despite the granting of a Therapeutic Use Exemption, the presence of salbutamol in urine in excess of 1000 ng/mL will be considered as an Adverse Analytical Finding unless the Athlete proves, through a controlled pharmacokinetic study, that the abnormal result was the consequence of the use of a therapeutic dose of inhaled salbutamol."

would beta alanine, a non essential amino acid be considered a beta-2 agonist?
