HAHAHA!  This thread is hilarious mostly because of how yall feel dirty thinking these women are attractive.  Baaaaaassically they are so at least be glad there are some pretty faces to liven up our sport.  The way I look at it is there is nothing wrong with admiring an attractive person as long as yall aren't gettin all lusty up in here  :)wink

Andy,
I felt "dirty" in commenting on the younger ladies because they are not much older than my daughters.  Younger folk would not have the least bit to care or worry as they may not be far removed from the attractive lifters age group.  However, Melanie's more mature.  Hence, my lack of apprehension in truly and honestly admitting to my thoughts.  I also find my wife absolutely breath taking, but she's not into olympic lifting yet (even though she's bought into doing power snatches and power cleans and jerks as part of her training).

I do have to note that my eldest daughter lifted at her first contest a few weeks ago("East Coast Gold's Gold Cup").  She was extremely impressed with "how handsome" both the young men and young women were at the meet.  She's seen her own body change since she started lifting and she thinks of it as an adjunct to her acting ambition. She noted that at least three of the young ladies at the meet "had bodies like Jennifer Beihl" - and she was right, IMdirtyoldmanO.  :)woohoo

  It's all in good fun.

All the best,
 Arden

I can understand what you are saying.  It is in the name of fun thats what it was so funny.  I guess to me though beauty is beauty, it can be appreciated without regard to age (barring young kids, under the age of maturity, that is just derranged and demented) and not be dirty.  As long as one is not obsessing or getting all "dirty" up on the appreciation (ie...the dirty old man whose mind is constantly on something sexual in regards to the women he is ogling).  But I also don't have any daughters that I would be like well this girl is the age of my daughters so I guess I may not fully grasp the concept yet.

It is encouraging, however, because it think it debunks the myths and preconceptions of women weightlifters being all manly.

So keep recruiting those pretties to the sport of weightlifting!!!!  ):wlfter

Dude --

I know outrageously vile double standards have become acceptable in recent months...

... among people who have previously self-proclaimed as champions of equality/respect,

but it is STILL NOT OK to be disrespectful in the guise of admiration.

Dave, while your initial post was carefully written, somebody who is truly concerned about gender equality and respect would not have brought up the topic in the first place, or at least would have asked for the ladies opinions as well.

But it is a fun topic which is why I was the first one to reply, lol.

For my money, Julia Rohde was the most attractive woman in the 2008 Olympics. She really is breathtaking. Great photo of her in Rob Macklem's gallery:

Dave are you mad? and if so why? Your post seemed mad, I see nothing wrong with this topic because it is in the name of fun.

Not mad at anyone in particular...

but some things go too far.

Most folks say all kinds of things that they would regret if they knew the derivation...

and I'm a poster boy for walking past the line of polite (or at least politically correct) taste...

but if this all seems kind of mysterious, there's a good reason.

Back to the topic, STRENGTH IS BEAUTY (great pic RM, thanks CL!!)!!
