Week after competition
« on: Nov 02, 2008, 06:45 PM »
Just posting to see how people attack the week after a competition.  Intensity/Volume/Rest and kinds of lifts is what i'm looking for.

Thanks in advance

From my perspective, this could vary greatly. If its a big contest long prepared for, then I favor taking a full week off from training. If its just a tune-up meet or something, then you might need to get right back in the fight with no rest.

I trained for about 8 weeks for this meet, but used the meet as a training day (just a local meet).  The week before was very light (volume wise) and moderate intensity.  I feel good physically but hands are tore up from the uesaka bars.  Figure i'll use the week as a squat week and light version of classics with more 'fun' stuff thrown in.

In regards to yourself (if a tune up meet) do you jump back into percentages from the numbers you posted in the meet?

Thanks for the reply

Hello Matt.   Usually a lifter takes a day or two off to rest up either from the trip or from the lifting or both.   Since you mentionned you feel good then continue training after taking a few days off.  But when you start back don't lift maximum rather start off with a reduced training session of deadlifts, squats and pulls.  Keep a log of the different ways you train so that you can see what works and what doesn't work for you.    Good luck in your training.

When I was a young developing athlete, I pretty much jumped back in to full training the Monday following the meet. As I developed into an elite lifter, I would rotate into pulls and squats only for a couple weeks, then pulls, squats, and 80-90% lifts at heaviest for a couple weeks, and then back into my full routine.

Now-a-days, I train pretty much Bulgarian style, except that I do back squats and I do front and back squats with more reps than a strict Bulgarian style. I compete very rarely as I only care about the USA Sr Nationals. So after that, I am taking a week to several weeks off or training very casually and/or rarely before I get serious again. When I resume training, its right back to heavy singles in the lifts and very hard squatting.

Cheers

I don't have any time to train the week following a competition, because I'm too busy eating! :)thumbsup
