Beginner: Access my lifts (part 2)
« on: Mar 27, 2009, 09:48 PM »
Hey all!

Here is the latest clip of me performing a Clean and Jerk:

80kg Clean and Jerk (77kg body weight) 27/03/09

Apologies for the poor video quality, it was recorded on a mobile phone.

It has been 2 months since I have started doing full clean and jerks. The video's of what I was like before can be seen here:

http://weightliftingexchange.com/smf/index.php?topic=5127.msg20824#msg20824

Since then my PR has gone up to 95kg

This was done on the 14th set of the day, so it is probably not the cleanest lift I have done.

-I notice that I jump forward. I am not sure if this is normal or if I do it often (or just a one off), or what causes it??
-The bar brushes my leg quite low down. I normally don't brush it at all, or at least closer to the groin.

Any input of where I am messing up would be appreciated! Or how I can improve!

Ps I think another video will be comming on monday, we will see if i can video some of my cleaner lifts.

You let it come in a bit at first, but then rush fwd, resulting in the fwd hop.

Be more patient and you'll be pleased by how much better it will pop.

Try rocking to your heels right before dipping for the Jerk -- it will deliver a better jolt to the bar so you won't end up rushing under (you should SNAP into the split -- action/reaction).

so i should 'wait' a little more at the top of the second pull - the result is that my leg straightens out more, before i start shrugging and jumping, and then going under the bar?

and if i do this correctly, i should feel the bar hitting up my leg a little higher, and i won't hop forwards?

The waiting is actually during the first part of the pull, to allow the bar to get further into you.  Keep the shldrs frontward so that angles work out, then as you groove and pop from the mid thigh up to the hips, the bar will go up rather than fwd.

ahh this makes sense.

Because what I have been doing during the first pull is trying to get my back as flat as possible, and legs as straight as possible when the bar is at my knees. When the bar is at my knees, for the second pull, straightening my back.

What you are saying is that I should keep my back angle pretty much the same from when the bar is lifted off the floor, and then straightening my back for the second pull when the bar is a little higher then my knees (maybe even close to mid thigh...?)?

many thanks!

Yes, I call it "re-cocking the back" -- as the bar moves up the lap, it becomes more possible to really prime the bundle for explosive release at the pop.
