It's a Long Way to the Top
« on: Oct 18, 2008, 04:02 PM »
OK, so I already have a training log here:

http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f49/trinitronmaximums-training-log-726083/

But I will post all my form check videos in this log.  Don't hold back on the criticism, I really want to get my form as perfect as possible.

Here's today:

Snatches

Clean and Jerks

Back Squats

My elbows really hurt when I release the bar after the snatch.  It doesn't hurt during the lift, but it hurts when I let go.  Any ideas on why this is?

Thanks for putting this up Brian, excellent lifting. I admire your snatches especially. Very nice squatting. I couldn't help you with the elbow problem. Be careful. Maybe you overdo things in some area of your training?

Looks pretty good. Your hips seem high in the snatch. I used to do that too, and they bar would stay further away from me causing me to miss more out front. It slows you down a little too when the bar is not close.

Thanks guys.  It sounds to me like you are saying I should have my hips lower (and as a result my back more vertical).  I've been told the opposite for quite awhile, that I want my back nearly horizontal as long as possible.  Am I confused or are there just 2 schools of thought here?

"...nearly horizontal as long as possible." I've never heard that recommended. If you watch most good lifters, you will see the hips lower and the torso more upright. There are some exceptions, but in general, the more bent over you start with the slower the lift will be.

Maybe I should be saying "get your shoulders over the bar", does that sound more correct?

Sorry for the lack of vids, I brought my camera today but it had no batteries :(

Double Deuce Open

I took the advice of the more experienced people at the meet and started with weights that were very light for me. It worked out, because I hit all 6 of my lifts.

Snatches
70kg
75kg
80kg

Clean and Jerks
90kg (no video)
98kg
105kg (match PR - plus the jerk was much better)

Overall, it was a great experience and I had a lot of fun. Everyone there was very supportive. I'm excited for competition number 2 in December.

I also have a few training videos to put up from the week before the comp.
