very impressive
i followed things closely in the 60's (mags), but then stopped
who were your main competitors
were there any splitters left competing in nationals in those days
the south beach diet reference sent me googling
it sounds pretty similar to what i did except i cut out he carbs very gradually
it worked quite well
thanks again for the answers!

Mike,

The competitors in the 60Kg class in the early to mid 70s were
Phil Sanderson
Roy Moore
Roman Mielec
Dwight Tamanaha
Joel Widdel
Gary Kawamura
Nick Vernucci
Donny Warner

The splitter that I remember best is Jim Napier in the 75Kg class. I believe that he tried both the split and squat snatch. If I remember correctly (which doesn't happen very often anymore), Jim tried an American record in the snatch (split) at the '76 Nationals.
If I was doing any better, I would be twins!!!

Best lifts were: 230lb press, 205lb snatch and 270lb c&j at 181lbs in the late 60s. Never had a coach, learned what little I did from S&H magazine and Bob Hoffman's book. Wish I knew then what I know now. Won a half dozen trophies at the local (Missouri) level. Met some cool people and have many fond memories.

First Time Meet - Results
I just returned from my first weightlifting meet - The Keystone State Games in York, PA.  I was disappointed in that the meet did not take place in York Barbells facility, but I was told they are to host next year.  I don't know what is going on at York, but I hope they get their act together and host the event next year.

I really enjoyed the meet.  I set PR's in the Snatch (85kg) and Clean and Jerk (107.5).  I cleaned 110 but just missed the jerk.  I hope to see more lifters at this event next year!

BTW, I won the gold medal in the masters division at 94kg.  (I was the only lifter in the weightclass.)
