I see an active use of the hip in a lot of the pros but not really a popping of the bar. Where I went wrong up to this week was popping the bar too much with hips. My coach refreshed me on a few pointers - retract shoulders at start which helped keep bar closer and sliding up the thighs with less popping of the bar. Result was an immediate 3k pr on clean and a barely miss at 6k pr.

I see active hips in Kolecki, Lu Yong, Dimas, Klokov, Berestov, etc. but no hard popping of the bar.

Brooke,
By "popping the bar" my mind is tell me that is driving the hips into the bar and causing it to "go out of line" or away from the body.  Is that correct?

What do you mean by "active hips?"  I want to understand so I can incorporate it into my own training.  The good lord blessed me with a wicked set of strong hips, back, and legs.  I've got to find a way to use them effectively.

All the best,
  Arden
